Excellent suggestions. The first two sound especially good to me. “Carnival of the Flesh” reminded me of a book you may like: “Freaks: Myths and Images of the Secret Self” by Leslie Fiedler. It’s a nonfiction book about human anomalies, or sideshow “freaks”. Very unsettling but informative and not exploitative at all.
